My Neighbourhood Restaurant

My Neighbourhood Restaurant is truly a hidden gem. It’s just off of highway 33 in Rutland. I must have driven past this place hundreds of times, but it never fully registered in my head as a place for brunch in Kelowna! This place is only open from 8am-3pm serving breakfast, brunch and lunch.

My first thoughts about this place were not very good. I judged it based on its location out in Rutland, the inside mimicked a Denny’s diner and the music was very old. When I first looked at the menu I didn’t see any appetizers like scones or cinnamon buns, or specialty breakfast drinks like chai tea lattes (my favorite brunch drink next to mimosas). They also do not carry any alternative milk beverages making my tummy extra sad.

Surprisingly Amazing Brunch in Kelowna

The food that comes out of this glorious diner is AMAZING. You can smell the fresh baked biscuits from outside, and the meals they served us were plate licking good. I had their pulled pork eggs benny which I would say out shines the pulled pork at Oak and Cru. The pork was slightly crispy, with a sweet tangy barbeque sauce. The sauce was not too overpowering which complimented the hollandaise sauce nicely. They also serve all of their eggs bennies on a fresh biscuit instead of the traditional English muffin. This little switch up changes the flavor and takes their eggs benny game to another level.

What Else Did We Try?

We also tried their banana stuffed French toast and their Texan benny. If you like French toast you’re going to love their creations. Nothing is short of being extra around here. Their French toast came with cream cheese, banana, brown sugar and cinnamon stuffed inside, and a tasty strawberry blueberry compote drizzled generously on top. The bread is nice and soft, and there’s plenty of filling and compote for every bite. They also serve an apple crisp stuffed French toast that we’ll need to try next time.

The Texan benny is made with their house made chili, and we upgraded the hash browns to pulled pork hash browns. I highly recommend making this upgrade to try their pulled pork, if you aren’t getting the pulled pork benny. If you’re vegetarian you can substitute the chili for their bean version on your Texan benny

To conclude, this restaurant is UNDER RATED. It is so tasty and since it’s not downtown the chances of being seated during peak brunch time are in your favor. So, now that you know it’s delicious and you can get in asap, what are you waiting for? Get going and start Discovering Kelowna!
