Provisions Kitchen & Catering

This year I decided to file my taxes on my own, and filing your taxes is such a process! If you’re looking for a little pick-me-up look no further. Provisions Kitchen is located inside Kettle River Brewing and tbh has always been a bit of a hidden gem. Before Provisions, Kettle River had the Tokyo Ramen cart right outside their doors, where you ordered outside and they would bring it in and serve you. Tokyo Ramen is still aroud and can be found outside of Barn Owl if you were wanting to try them out…But we’re not here for them right now, so let’s dive in to the good stuff!

What To Expect?

This delicious gem is housed in a garage. YES YOU READ THAT RIGHT, A GARAGE. There is very limited seating, and charming eclectic decor. We had stepped in for brunch after seeing them advertise it on instagram a few times. The pictures looked pretty enticing and we hadn’t been in since Tokyo was still out front (so ages really). Parking can be found along the side of the road and if you saw my last instagram post then you know they host Trivia on Sunday’s and Open Mic Night on Wednesday’s which we still need to check out!

What Did We Try?

We ordered their chocolate quinoa breakfast cookie, eggs benny which featured crispy pork belly, and their squash pasta with house made sauasage on top. Their menu is ALWAYS changing, so if you want to try everything you’ll just have to keep coming back 😉. The quinoa breakfast cookie was good but very dry.. like natures valley crunchy bar dry. If you need a little tasty helper to keep you stay hydrated this cookie most definitely does the trick!

Now let’s dive into the mains! MMM MMM MMMMM! After the first bite we promised to come back for the big boards because wow. Their chef is up to something wicked back there. When I think about brunch I think of something you’d have for lunch but with an oozing egg on top, otherwise it’s just breakfast or lunch. The pasta dish was creamy with butternut squash and housemade sauasage on top. It was full of flavour and the sausage satisfied the need for something brunch like without the need for a runny egg! Well kind of… I mean we still had the eggs benny 🙈. The pork belly was tasty and not too fatty. My partner normally doesn’t eat pork but absolutely destroyed his plate!

Final Thoughts

Provisions Kitchen is delicious. Straight up gold. Menu was small but nothing could possibly dissapoint you except for that cookie, like damn why was it so dry?? I’m also a little sad they open so late for brunch because waiting until 12pm is HARD WORK. But hey, the reward of a delicious plate with speedy service is worth the wait! I honestly can’t wait to order my first big board from them and attend a trivia night because whatever that chef is cooking I want a piece of.

OEB Breakfast Co.

Welcome welcome, we are now entering Kelowna’s slow period. The tourists have left, the weather is dreary, and staying at home seems like the more comfortable option. But with our slow season comes the best time to try out all the hot spots in Kelowna! OEB Kelowna does not dissapoint with their well rounded delicious menu.

What To Expect?

During the weekend and warmer seasons I would recommend joining the online waitlist or going earlier to snag a table. The first time I went was in the summer with my girlfriends. We went at 8am and the restaurant was packed full. I went again last week around 10am with my partner and we got in right away. It just depends on when you’re craving brunch! The interior is warm and trendy, with no amount of space wasted. Parking is normally not free downtown so don’t forget to pay your meters 🙂

What Did We Try?

Oh baby, we’ve tried quite a few items from our friends at OEB Kelowna so get ready for our favorites!

First up, we have the breakfast poutines. We are in Canada after all, so poutine is good for any meal 🍁 We had the Gold Digga and the Get Shorty Rib Poutine. Both were bursting at the seams with flavour but my favourite has to be the Gold Digga with the black truffles. We recently fell in love with the black truffle cheddar cheese found at most grocery stores here in Kelowna, and have been adding it to absolutely everythng. We firmly believe that anything with truffle is going to be amazing!

Get shorty rib poutine

Next up, we have the Canadian Lobster & Shrimp Crepe and the Florentine Eggs Benny. The Canadian Lobster & Shrimp crepe is well worth the price as it’s FILLED with delicious seafood. As for the Florentine, I’m personally not a fan of avocado but if you are, OEB does not leave you high and dry! I mean look at the picture. Your eyes do not deceive you, that is in fact a whole a** creamy avocado. My friend likes his Floretnine with a side of smoked salmon for that extra kick of protein and swears this is the best thing on the menu.

Final Thoughts

The portions are large and they do not cheap out with the more luxurious ingredients like avocado, seafood, and truffle. Most of the dishes come with fries that are cooked in beef tallow and herbs, making them even more delicious. The service is fast and we never felt forgotten even with a packed space. I have no complaints for OEB Kelowna! If you’re in the mood for trying something delicious check these guys out, and let me know what you think 🍽️

~ Enjoy Discovering Kelowna 💞

BNA Bowling

Bowling but make it trendy. I got you covered. BNA bowling is a located within the brewery that hosts one of Kelowna’s top chefs in a laid back setting. You don’t always need to dress up for the best of Kelowna! Definetly a good place if you want to bowl in a kiddo free environment and enjoy some top notch drinks. #Adulting.

What to Expect?

As BNA is located downtown parking fees will apply depending on when you go. The atmosphere has a retro feel fueled by the seating, decor, and arcade games alongside the bowling alley. To bowl you will need a reservation and lane rentals are $45-$55 an hour depending on what day of the week you go. Socks are available for purchase and bowling shoes are available for rent. Bowling with long nails? Don’t sweat it. BNA has bowling ramps to help prevent breakage! I’m sure that’s not their true purpose haha but it most certainly helps. Food and drinks are also available to enjoy while you bowl.

So Yo, How’d it go?

I had such a great time with my friends here! We had eaten at one of the tables before bowling and had drinks brought out to us while getting our bowl on. I would highly recommend one of their silly sodas, specifically the cream soda. It was so good! We also had the beef rendang and BBQ chicken wonton nachos. Definetly not your average pub food. The bowling shoes are as cute as can be, especially with everyone dressed up for dinner. Tres beau. We had started off playing just for fun, but by the third round of turns the competition was on and it there was no mercy to be found. As you can see, we are clearly expert bowlers. I can’t be the only one who thinks underhand throws are underrated right? In the end the birthday girl left us in the dust claiming her rightful place as bowling queen.

But What About the Food?

They have pizzas, burgers, nachos, and then some special menu items such as beef rendang and tom kha gai mussels and clams. Everything came with rave reviews from our table except the fish tacos, which were peruvian style and did not meet my peruvian partner’s expectations. But hey, to each their own! They serve gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan options making this place pretty alternative diet friendly.

Final Thoughts

My final thoughts on BNA Bowlng is that they truly tried to be as inclusive as possible when it came to the menu and who can bowl. I have broken all my nails at other bowling centres and vowed to never bowl again, making BNA a GAME CHANGER. Not only that but bowling without the kikddos is a game changer. We will definetly be back for a rematch.

Now get out there and start Discovering Kelowna!

Porter’s

What’s up my hungry people?! Today’s post is going to uncover a local brunch spot. Porter’s is located beside Copper Brewing and serves up all your favorite brews from them! Should we call it Brunch n’ Brews?? We were lucky enough to get a table on opening day and this place was so hot they sold out of food before closing. Don’t worry they sold out after we got there, so there’s plenty for me to talk about 😉

What to Expect?

Parking at this baby is FREE. Me gusta all things FREE so it’s always in capital letters for you guys. There was no wait time to get in and to my surprise almost two months after they’ve opened they’re still flying low on the radar. But have no fear, your local guide is here! When you walk in there are hundreds of light bulbs on strings dangling down, some of different colors which kind of reminded me of the night sky, very pretty! Patio seating is available and mostly shaded which is welcomed on these scorching days.

What Did We Try?

We started off with mimosas of course. I know, I know. They carry amazing brews! But if I dont have a mimosa with my brunch I feel like something is missing. Trust me you won’t be disapointed as these brunch cocktails are served with your choice of mango or guava nectar. YUM. They were served in the cutest glasses with the Porter’s logo making them extra instagram worthy.

We had the hardest time deciding and in the end figured we’d just have to keep coming back to try the whole menu! We settled on the Korean Pork Belly Bowl and the Ukrainian Breakfast. After seeing the sausage appear on all the plates around us, we knew we had to try it.

Let’s start with the Korean Pork Belly Bowl. This bowl has all the essentials kicked up a notch. It has your crispy potatoes, pork belly, kimchi cabbage and gochujang for spice, topped off with poched eggs and hollandaise sauce. I loved how perfect the pieces were, making a knife completely optional. The spice level was also very low making this dish enjoyable for everyone and customizable to your comfort level.

Next up is the Ukrainian Breakfast. If you thought perogies but make it breakfast, you nailed it! Giant golden brown potatoes alongside the cutest perogies, two eggs done your way, farmer sausage, and a cabbage roll. I’ve never had a cabbage roll before but it was the perfect pairing with all the other flavours on the plate.

Final Thoughts

Porter’s is perfect for having a delicious brunch away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. The service is fast, the portions are great, and the flavours don’t stop. I really want to try the Soufflé Pancakes and Chicken and Waflles next time, so if you’ve tried them let me know! If not, remember this spot the next time you’re out Discovering Kelowna.

Bouchons Bistro

Get ready for another date worthy spot! Bouchons Bistro is located downtown and is considered to be one of Kelowna’s finer spots. The restaurant is small and intimate, with a French forward menu. That’s right, I’m talking about escargot and the BEST french onion soup. Reservations are strongly recommended.

What to Expect?

Let’s start off with the parking situation. Bouchons Bistro is downtown making parking a little tricky to find. There is street parking and lot parking available for a small fee, depending on when you go. I would suggest following a semi-fromal dress code as this is a fine dining restaurant. The first time I tried this place out I showed up to mid day post workout and can tell you I was definetly out of place, but when you’re craving french onion soup Bouchons is the place to get it! The atmosphere includes dim lighting, soft music, a waitor/waitress with the cloth napkin draped over their arm, and feautres written up on the chalkboard.

What Did We Try?

During our most recent visit we had the Gratinée Lyonnaise, Le Lapin à la Moutarde, the Terre & Mer, and the Profiteroles au Chocolat for dessert.

Scroll for mouth watering goodness.

Gratinée Lyonnaise from Bouchons Bistro
Gratinée Lyonnaise

Gratinée Lyonnaise, otherwise known as the OG french onion soup. My partner and I were fighting for the last bites on this one. If poutine could be turned into a soup, I bet it would taste like this. I’m not sure if I’ve talked this soup up enough times in this post, but it’s a MUST TRY.

Le Lapin à la Moutarde from Bouchons Bistro
Le Lapin à la Moutarde

Le Lapin à la Moutarde is duck leg cooked to perfection in a bath of beans, accompanied by sausage and pork belly. This dish is considered a specialty in France and is such a hearty and filling dish. If you’re looking for protein this dish has it all!

Terre & Mer from Bouchons Bistro
Terre & Mer

Terre & Mer, otherwise known as surf and turf. You can not go wrong with this dish! Everything was tender and juicy, especially with that bed of delicious gravy.

Profiteroles au Chocolat from Bouchons Bistro
Profiteroles au Chocolat

To finish things off we had the Profiteroles au Chocolat. We decided on this dessert after watching the couple beside us get it, and it did not dissapoint. The waitor came over and drizzled warm chocolate over the pastries, which melted the ice cream nestled in-between. It was the perfect way to end our meal.

Final Thoughts

My final thoughts on Bouchons is that they provide you with an intimate experience, that makes you feel like a friend they’ve welcomed into their home. Our meal was absolutley delicous, and to top it off the Chef came out and thanked us for coming in. I’ve been to plenty of fine dining restaurants and have never had that personal touch before. The escargot I tried on a previous time was also VERY GOOD, it tastes like garlic butter mushrooms with a pastry crust.

As always, have fun Discovering Kelowna 🍽️

The Fixx Cafe & Pasta Bar

This local favorite is tucked away in the corner of the lower mission Save-on-Foods parking lot. Reservations are highly recommended at The Fixx Cafe as tables are limited. This restaurant is rated as one of the top restaurants for pasta. It has won multiple local awards and for good reason! Picture this: You walk in and are greeted by the smell of fresh garlic bread, the host greets you and walks you past the open kitchen where you catch a glimpse of your future meal. You take a seat at your table and everything on the menu starts to make you salivate. Sounds good right?

What Did We Try?

This time we skipped the appetizers and went straight for the main courses. We ordered the California, the Mediterranean, and the fresh catch of the day as soon as we sat down. After being teased by the delicious aromas coming from the kitchen, you really can’t blame us.

The Review

First let’s talk about the California penne pasta. When you think about California, I bet coconut curry doesn’t come to mind. This dish was packed with flavor from the coconut curry sauce to the jumbo shrimp. I’ve never had pickled onions served on top of my pasta before, but man was it the cherry on top! Personally I love pickled onions on everything, and have a homemade jar in my fridge at all times. So to be at a restaurant that appealed to that side? Oooo baby.

the California penne pasta from the fixx cafe

Next up on the list of mouth watering dishes from The Fixx Cafe, is the Mediterranean. Thick chunks of asparagus lathered in creamy gorgonzola sauce, complimented by mushrooms that soaked up the flavor. All of this good graciousness topped off with fresh parmesan and of course, those mouth watering pickled onions. To be honest, both of these pasta dishes had big enough portions that were bursting with flavor that the chicken breast on top was just an added bonus. I can see why this place is such a hot spot!

The Mediterranean from the fixx cafe

Finally, we had the catch of the day. Now this dish is always changing but does not disappoint. Pictured below is the salmon, plated to please. I will say the portion size was smaller than the pasta dishes. So if you’re trying to get two meals out of your order I would suggest sticking to what this place is know for, THE PASTA! It is nice that they have a dish that changes regularly especially if you’re a regular. Keeps the menu from getting old while keeping all the favorites. I would also like to mention that we ordered all the desserts on the menu, but ate them up so quickly that I didn’t even get one picture. I can tell you that everything on their dessert menu was muy bueno! They even have a sampler plate with three smaller desserts on them.

The catch of the day

Final Thoughts

My final thoughts on The Fixx Cafe are that it’s a MUST TRY. The experience from the beginning to end checks off every box. Parking is abundant and free, the smells just lure you straight into the main courses, service is fast and friendly, and the desserts are too good to wait for. The plates are large and well worth the price, as mentioned earlier you can get two meals out of one pasta dish. Meaning you can be the envy of the office the next day! If you haven’t tried these guys out yet, I hope this post has swayed you into Discovering Kelowna 🍽

Lakeside Dining at Hotel Eldorado

In the mood for some award-winning dining? The other day we wined and dined at Hotel Eldorado.

The Hotel Eldorado offers a beautiful dining experience through their restaurant called “Lakeside Dining“. With tables right on the water, this restaurant makes for a spectacular romantic date night. During the summer, their outdoor patio serves plenty of fresh cocktails with a casual to business casual dress code. However, in the fall and winter things move indoors with bigger plates and a more sophisticated and intimate atmosphere.

Parking at this restaurant is one of the few places in Kelowna that offer valet parking! There is also paid public parking available just outside the hotel’s parking lot. I went here with two of my girlfriends and we’d have to say it was pretty darn good! We ordered the local cheese and charcuterie, Margherita flat bread, Eldorado lobster mac and cheese, and the El inspired Irish stew. Dessert is my favorite thing, but we were just too full to try any this time! Read on to see what we had to say about our experience and each delicious plate.

My Food Review of Hotel Eldorado

Let’s start this review off with the appetizer: The cheese and charcuterie board. A simple appetizer that screams high end is the charcuterie board. This particular board came with a selection of two meats and two cheeses, fruit, pickles, olives, chutney and Dijon. The portion sizes and house made seasonal fruit chutney were excellent! This board serves one to four depending on if you have more food coming or not.

charcuterie board from hotel eldorado

Next up is the Margherita flat bread. This flat bread is perfect for those of us who love a delicious sauce. Their flat bread came with a thick layer of tomato sauce, that reminded me of when you’re taking your last piece of garlic bread to scrape up the final bits of mom’s spaghetti sauce. I mean waste not want not, right? Drizzled with pesto and oozing with mozzarella, this flat bread is best eaten ASAP. If you wait too long, the sauce can make the dough soggy, leaving you with a subpar experience.

margherita flat bread from hotel eldorado

This next dish came with high recommendations from our waiter, so we decided to give it a try. The lamb had ok reviews from my table, and was not quite as spectacular as it was hyped up to be. However, the saving grace in this dish was the gravy and all the fixings. So much flavor in one bowl!

the el inspired irish stew at hotel eldorado

Finally we moved onto the main course dishes which were the Eldorado lobster mac and cheese and the El inspired Irish stew. For being the most expensive thing on the menu, the lobster mac and cheese was good but lacked in seafood. We had ordered it with the addition of scallops but received only one on top of our dish. The saving grace here is the sauce. So. Damn. Good. I mean we had to order a second serving of bread to scoop it all out! You know what would be really good? If you could take their mac and cheese sauce and serve it as a fondue. Now that my friends would be heaven on earth.

lobster mac and cheese from hotel eldorado

Final Thoughts

My final thoughts on Lakeside dining at Hotel Eldorado are that it is definitely hyped up from the summer. Their watermelon salad and extensive cocktail selection are some of the best things to end a hot summer day. However, their fall and winter lineup does not give off the same energy. The food, compared to other award wining fine dining restaurants in the Okanagan lacks umph. When it comes to the highlight of the dish, whether it be the seafood, lamb, or charcuterie selection, something was not quite there. Highlights of this restaurant include all of their sauces which they absolutely nailed. I mean I would go back for the lobster mac and cheese in a heartbeat. The romantic and intimate setting they offer for a date night with your partner, friends or family is also unbeatable. But don’t just take my word for it! Make a reservation and add them to your Discovering Kelowna adventure.

My Neighbourhood Restaurant

My Neighbourhood Restaurant is truly a hidden gem. It’s just off of highway 33 in Rutland. I must have driven past this place hundreds of times, but it never fully registered in my head as a place for brunch in Kelowna! This place is only open from 8am-3pm serving breakfast, brunch and lunch.

My first thoughts about this place were not very good. I judged it based on its location out in Rutland, the inside mimicked a Denny’s diner and the music was very old. When I first looked at the menu I didn’t see any appetizers like scones or cinnamon buns, or specialty breakfast drinks like chai tea lattes (my favorite brunch drink next to mimosas). They also do not carry any alternative milk beverages making my tummy extra sad.

Surprisingly Amazing Brunch in Kelowna

The food that comes out of this glorious diner is AMAZING. You can smell the fresh baked biscuits from outside, and the meals they served us were plate licking good. I had their pulled pork eggs benny which I would say out shines the pulled pork at Oak and Cru. The pork was slightly crispy, with a sweet tangy barbeque sauce. The sauce was not too overpowering which complimented the hollandaise sauce nicely. They also serve all of their eggs bennies on a fresh biscuit instead of the traditional English muffin. This little switch up changes the flavor and takes their eggs benny game to another level.

What Else Did We Try?

We also tried their banana stuffed French toast and their Texan benny. If you like French toast you’re going to love their creations. Nothing is short of being extra around here. Their French toast came with cream cheese, banana, brown sugar and cinnamon stuffed inside, and a tasty strawberry blueberry compote drizzled generously on top. The bread is nice and soft, and there’s plenty of filling and compote for every bite. They also serve an apple crisp stuffed French toast that we’ll need to try next time.

The Texan benny is made with their house made chili, and we upgraded the hash browns to pulled pork hash browns. I highly recommend making this upgrade to try their pulled pork, if you aren’t getting the pulled pork benny. If you’re vegetarian you can substitute the chili for their bean version on your Texan benny

To conclude, this restaurant is UNDER RATED. It is so tasty and since it’s not downtown the chances of being seated during peak brunch time are in your favor. So, now that you know it’s delicious and you can get in asap, what are you waiting for? Get going and start Discovering Kelowna!

Amore Mio Kelowna

Amore Mio is a cozy Italian café is situated right on Bernard Avenue. They are most famous for their many flavors of delicious authentic gelato, but also offer a great light breakfast in Kelowna for those with smaller appetites. This is also a great spot during warm weather to watch all the dogs pass by while you enjoy your breakfast!

view from amore mio's patio

Depending on what time of day you go, parking can be tricky to find on the street. However, there are plenty of parking lots just around the corner. Some parking lots are free downtown during the weekend and some parking lots charge. Be sure to check before leaving your car as parking is checked regularly by city of Kelowna’s staff.

What Did We Try?

During our visit we tried their chai tea latte and cappuccino. Aren’t their drinks picture perfect?! They were a little bit on the sweet side so remember that if you aren’t a fan of sugar. They come in three different sizes to accommodate all your caffeine needs, pictured below are the 12oz’s.

chai latte and a cappuccino

Did you know that caprese is a word for the combination of mozzarella, basil and tomatoes? Far from a type of meat or cheese like we had originally thought. Please tell me we are not alone! Their breakfast croissants and caprese sandwiches are panini pressed to achieve the crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside effect. These filled us up nicely after our morning playing at the hidden outdoor gym.

light breakfast croissant and caprese sandwich from amore mio

Amore Mio is a great café for a light breakfast in Kelowna, but if you’re still feeling hungry then a nice way to end your meal would have to be with some gelato. Anytime is gelato time! Am I right? I’m right. They also sell a variety of freshly made baked treats. I hope this post has helped spark your next Discovering Kelowna Adventure 🍽

Diner Deluxe

Diner Deluxe gives you comfort food kicked up a level. This brunch spot can be found right across Kelowna’s main beach is one of the best brunch spots in Kelowna. Chicken and waffles? Try chicken and waffles with jalapeños cooked into your waffle and a chunky house made hot sauce slathered on top of crispy golden fried chicken, complete with maple butter and maple syrup on the side. Is your mouth watering yet?! This has to be one of the best places for brunch in Kelowna.

What’s the wait time and parking situation like?

This restaurant offers indoor dining and dog friendly patio dining, right across from Gyro Beach. I recommend coming early as wait times for a table can be around 30 minutes. Fortunately, they have a text service set up so you can enjoy the beach or do something else while you wait! Parking is available behind the building for a fee, or for free if you park on the street. Parking is also available across the street in the Gyro Beach parking lot for a fee.

What do you recommend for brunch?

I’ve been here plenty of times and I always recommend this place for brunch to friends! They offer a little bit of something for everyone, whether you like big brunches or small ones. I normally get the chicken and waffles (spicy chicken and spicy waffle), but this time I decided to venture out and try something new. I got the Huevos Rancheros with jalapeño chorizo sausage, and I’m SO GLAD I did. It does come with a very mild salsa, so I recommend getting their house made hot sauce on the side if you like a little heat. The potatoes really complimented the spice as they air on the sweet side, and the tortilla crunch was perfect!

My table also ordered the Cluckin’ Delicious Bowl, substituting the grilled chicken for fried chicken as per another friend’s recommendation. The arugula in this bowl complimented the other flavors so nicely and added a “healthy” finish to the bowl. I also recommend asking for the house made jam to slather on your toast! With all the in house made extras like the maple butter, jam, and hot sauce, it’s no wonder why this place is known for their brunch.

Brunch extras

You know what else goes with a great brunch? A great drink. Is there really any better brunch drink than the original mimosa (okay, maybe caesers)? Here you can customize it to your liking with choice of juice, sparkling wine, and size. Heads up though as the bigger size comes with tasty fruit at the bottom of the glass!

This place is sure to become one of your new brunch staples, as there’s something for everyone here. Vegan/vegetarian? No problem! Ask for their vegan scrambled “eggs” and vegan sausage when placing your order.

Now get out there and start Discovering Kelowna.
