Bouchons Bistro

Get ready for another date worthy spot! Bouchons Bistro is located downtown and is considered to be one of Kelowna’s finer spots. The restaurant is small and intimate, with a French forward menu. That’s right, I’m talking about escargot and the BEST french onion soup. Reservations are strongly recommended.

What to Expect?

Let’s start off with the parking situation. Bouchons Bistro is downtown making parking a little tricky to find. There is street parking and lot parking available for a small fee, depending on when you go. I would suggest following a semi-fromal dress code as this is a fine dining restaurant. The first time I tried this place out I showed up to mid day post workout and can tell you I was definetly out of place, but when you’re craving french onion soup Bouchons is the place to get it! The atmosphere includes dim lighting, soft music, a waitor/waitress with the cloth napkin draped over their arm, and feautres written up on the chalkboard.

What Did We Try?

During our most recent visit we had the Gratinée Lyonnaise, Le Lapin à la Moutarde, the Terre & Mer, and the Profiteroles au Chocolat for dessert.

Scroll for mouth watering goodness.

Gratinée Lyonnaise from Bouchons Bistro
Gratinée Lyonnaise

Gratinée Lyonnaise, otherwise known as the OG french onion soup. My partner and I were fighting for the last bites on this one. If poutine could be turned into a soup, I bet it would taste like this. I’m not sure if I’ve talked this soup up enough times in this post, but it’s a MUST TRY.

Le Lapin à la Moutarde from Bouchons Bistro
Le Lapin à la Moutarde

Le Lapin à la Moutarde is duck leg cooked to perfection in a bath of beans, accompanied by sausage and pork belly. This dish is considered a specialty in France and is such a hearty and filling dish. If you’re looking for protein this dish has it all!

Terre & Mer from Bouchons Bistro
Terre & Mer

Terre & Mer, otherwise known as surf and turf. You can not go wrong with this dish! Everything was tender and juicy, especially with that bed of delicious gravy.

To finish things off we had the Profiteroles au Chocolat. We decided on this dessert after watching the couple beside us get it, and it did not dissapoint. The waitor came over and drizzled warm chocolate over the pastries, which melted the ice cream nestled in-between. It was the perfect way to end our meal.

Final Thoughts

My final thoughts on Bouchons is that they provide you with an intimate experience, that makes you feel like a friend they’ve welcomed into their home. Our meal was absolutley delicous, and to top it off the Chef came out and thanked us for coming in. I’ve been to plenty of fine dining restaurants and have never had that personal touch before. The escargot I tried on a previous time was also VERY GOOD, it tastes like garlic butter mushrooms with a pastry crust.

As always, have fun Discovering Kelowna 🍽️
